You login to Google Analytics to edit your profiles and feel momentarily disoriented.
Where are my profiles?!!
Ahh, they’re now called Views!
With the rollout of the new Google Analytics Administration Interface, Google will be renaming Profiles to Views, a detailed here – Read Analytics Profiles will be renamed as Views”.
For now, they’re still called ‘Profiles’ in the new Google Analytics Admin interface ….
…But the transition has already begun in Google Analytics Help documentation.
If it’s been a while since you’ve worked with profiles and want to brush up by checking the Help centre, you won’t find any help for ‘Profiles’. Look for ‘Views’.
Just another change to keep you on your toes!
Thanks for the clarification. I was shocked when I opened up my GA accounts and saw that once again GA had changed the format. I like it, I just wish they’d give us more notice.
Hi Heather – the new interface started rolling out in June: http://analytics.blogspot.ca/2013/06/streamlining-google-analytics.html.
I don’t recall if this has been covered in one of their emails yet. You might want to check your Google Analytics user ‘settings’ (blue link, top right, when logged into Google Analytics). Google sends out occasional updates about GA and you can influence the amount and type of info they send you.
This interface is much improved over the old one. One hassle is the dropdown for access to profiles (views!). Too much scrolling in that tiny dropdown window.
Thank you! I have been reading about filters and everyone talks about making new profiles and I could not find an answer on what a profile was now called. Even when I went to Google help they still have pages that talk about profiles and when you click on their link it goes to a broken page. You’d think they could easily just put up the information you have here, which makes it all make sense 😀 Thanks!
Hi Angela,
Broken links are annoying, aren’t they?
Account Hierarchy is described here:
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1009618?hl=en&ref_topic=1102143
The first link on this page is “About Views”.
And this section talks about filtering:

Hope this helps!
Thanks so much 😀
